AllGrades_Checklist_ArgumentationQuestions

This is a checklist to be used in any grade, outlining what classifies a claim, evidence, and warrants. The checklist identifies how a student knows they have produced a mathematical argument, explains what constitutes evidence and warrants, and includes chain of reasoning to aid in the flow of the argument.

AllGrades_Checklist_PartsOfAnArgument

The Parts of an Argument provides a both a poster and a template designed to highlight each piece of a powerful argument. The scaffolded template works well with the argumentation poster, as it uses the same graphics and helpful words. There is a space for the claim, evidence, and warrant. This scaffold would work well with any students working on argumentation.

AllGrades_GraphicOrganizer_TalkFrameWorksheetTemplate1

This is a blank talk frame that teachers can use to develop lesson plans and discussions. The talk frame nicely sets up classroom discussions in which students will take different sides of an argument and discuss different methods for solving problems. The talk frame provides a space for a guiding question or math problem that the lesson will be focused on, three spaces for different student responses or methods of thinking about the guiding question, and a section to outline the major points that you wish for students to take away from a lesson.

The second page provides a space for a Think and Talk idea section, where students can record the claim and possible ideas.
